In Windows 7 we can setup FTP server by doing the below steps.

  • Open ‘Windows features’ by running optionalfeatures command from Run.
  • Expand the node ‘Internet Information Services
  • Select FTP Server node.

Install ftp server in Windows 7/ Server 2008

  • Click OK.

After completing the above steps, FTP service will be installed on your system. This service is named ‘Microsoft ftp service‘.

If you don’t want to run FTP service on the system, you can stop/disable the service from Serivce management console(services.msc). You can also uninstall the ftp service from optionalfeatures window. For un-installation, you need to uncheck the FTP server node and then click OK.
